Hello, Im new to this, not just woodcarving but to the internet. I wanted to initially source information in my own region but this site came up and I thought it would be worth a go.
I draw very detailed pictures that I thought would look good carved and I am at the very very early stages of being organised to do something about it. I have a "dremmel" arriving soon and I am wanting to do a class for beginners to get some professional help with the basics. So that is why I am here. Thanks, Luce

Welcome aboard Luce, I have a limited experience but would be glad to drop by and give you whatever help I can. Hello Luce and welcome. Getting into a class will help you learn some of the basics of carving. There are excellent carvers and woodburner's on this web page and all willing to help a fellow carver.

Luce, you said in your first post that you have done some detailed drawings that you thought would look good as carvings. Perhaps the place to start is to attach a photo of one drawing to your posting. If you have a photo on your computer, ypu could attach it by clicking on the little paper clip above and follow the instructions. If it is too big (too many pixels), you may have to edit it to smaller size. If we can see it, we may be able to suggest a type of carving.
This site includes some who do woodburning, which is a process of making a picture or pattern on a flat wooden surface by burning the lines with a electric tool similar to a soldering iron. (I'm sure they'll come up with a better definition!) You might also do the design as relief carving or chip carving. I have had fun doing some designs of M. C. Escher as relief carvings. If you go to the Carver Galleries (one of the links along the left side) and scroll down to the type of carving or Pyrography & Woodburning, you can look at some examples of each.

Welcome to this group of young and old Cronies, you watch for those "red neck" canucks like Cliff, always trying to hitch a free ride. But I'll tell you what, my offer is even better than Cliff's, just send one airplane ticket to me that way I can get out of the dog house, I'll even bring my tools. Cliff was right some of us don't take life to serious,cause that would ruin all the fun.
There so much great information on this forum and great carvers that are always ready to help us new (I mean Young fellows}comers.
