| | Cottonwood Bark I'm one of the authors of The Illustrated Guide to Carving Tree Bark and am new to this forum. Not quite sure how everything works but thought I would give it a try for awhile. I am primarily interested in carving whimsical cottonwood bark creations and also market cottonwood bark. I've been carving since I was a young boy and will continue to do so until I can no longer carve. I also have been instructing for a number of years in both the US and Canada.
I'm open to any questions that you should have about cottonwood bark or other carving related inquiries. Some of you may know me as I was also involved with a book called Carving Found Wood along with my good friends Vic Hood and Jack Williams. So.....if there is anything I can help you with, give me a shout.

| | Re: Cottonwood Bark Hi Rick, Welcome!! I have your Carving Tree Bark book, I can't tell you how many times I referred to it when I tried my hand at bark carving last summer. !!! I would have been lost without it, so much valuable information and the illustrations are fantastic!! You do wonderful work!!
I haven't tried a house yet, I did a green woman, a Santa wall hanging and Santa ornament. It only took doing one piece to realize what an addicting wood it was!!
Again, thanks for all the help and Welcome! Deborah |

| | Re: Cottonwood Bark Welcome Rick. I have your books also and refer to it often since I have a big supply of Plains Cottonwood bark supply. Learning each time I harvest the bark and found some oddities in harvesting CWBark. Why I can strip a 7 foot by 4 foot section in one piece, then on the oppisit side of the tree can't pry any bark off. I would understand if maybe north and south sides but easy to get off East said of tree but not the west side.
I enjoy carving in bark and have done a lot of it in the last year. |

| | Re: Cottonwood Bark Hi Rick,
Welcome to the forum from a little further down Minnesota from you. I live at Parkers Prairie just North of Alexandria.
I also have your book as does everyone else, doesn't appear that you will be selling many more books as everyone already has them. LOL
Enjoyed your book very much and both my wife and I have carved using your book as reference. Keep up the good work.

| | Re: Cottonwood Bark Rick welcome aboard I and seems like everyone else have your book great book and great carvings. I carve a lot of bark sometimes I carve twelve to fifteen bark carvings a day. I seem to have got addicted to the bark carvings and thank goodness I have been able to find enough bark to carve. I will definatly keep you in mind if I run out although it is expensive to ship across the US boarder.

Okay, I'll be the odd one out as I don't have your book - yet. I too enjoy bark carving and am in the process of trying to figure out how to carve a cougar in Cootnwood Bark.
It's nice to have you aboard, great bunch of people here. |

| | Re: Cottonwood Bark Thanks for the welcome to the Author's Forum. Hopefully I can figure everything out and don't mess up to bad with this. If I do make a mistake or two, please let me know so I can correct them.
Glad to be on board and look forward to answering questions and providing information regarding Cottonwood bark carving.
