Hello everyone. This is my first time using a chat group thing. I could use some advice. I live in BC Canada and am interested in gathering cottonwood bark to sell bulk. I can get the wood, but I dont know about the market. Where can i sell this stuff and what sizes are best....dead or live bark and at what prices ect. I live around some logging and have seen pieces of cottonwood tree laying there, thought about gathering it but what to do with it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much. Eric |

You can check some internet sites to get an idea of what it sells for, TreelineUSA.com sells it as well as a few others. Your biggest problem is going to be shipping it. The weight is going to make it expensive to ship, or time consuming for the buyer. A simple Google Search might give you some ideas of what it is selling for and what prices. Check E bay too, you might find some on there and by watching the sales, you might get an idea of the market. I have to buy mine since we do not have it here, so, if the price was right, and the shipping not too bad, I might be a customer. Gabe |

Eric, It will depend on what bark it is. Some cottonwood is like cement and hard to carve. It is better if it comes from dead tree's but as long as its dry I would not think it would matter. Also would depend on shipping charges and if you are thinking of shipping to the US could be a problem because they dont allow uncured woods. There is a market in Canada although I am not sure how big of one. I would be interested in some but not a large quantity shipping on this side of the boarder is expensive as well. Colin

Thanks guys, I have seen prices from 3-5$/lb(if I could sell a lot I could make it cheaper), Cross border shipping ....hmmmmm, I am working in the tree climbing industry, and I see lots of spiecies, what other types of wood are desirable for carving?. I will continue to do some light research. If anyone wants to buy some for cheap let me know, i'll go find some(make sure its not rotten, but soft right?)and maybe we can figure something out. Cheers. Eric 250-370-0350 |

I know Ebay has a TON of cottonwood bark up for auction on any given day. I've bought several boxes off of there.....so I won't need to buy any for a while...but you may try your luck there.
