| | Coming on board Hey gang I live in Arkansas lots of trees, knocking on 60, Harley rider, love Kids and animals, X drag racer, Taught scuba, single after 37 yrs. I make scupltures, woodturnings, model steam engines, and custom motorcycle parts. I wanted to start carving because I needed to enhance my turnings because I don't like being a cookie cutter crafter. I've always liked to think outside of the box when it comes to woodwork. My motive isn't to outdo someone else but rather to let creativness rule so to speak. In my sculptures I have actually used the piece I cut off as waste as the sculpture, because something struck me about it. I know that might go against the grain of a another sculpturer, and they may loose some sleep over it but I don't. I'm not an expert ( the Dictionary says a "spurt" is a drip under pressure) so if your an X spurt your just a dip, right? I don't know if I have enough years left to become as masterfull as some carvers are or even if I did have the time if there is enough raw talent to draw from, but I do know this I'm going to make it a enjoyable experience for as long as possible. Hope I didn't rattle on to much. Have a special day. (not responsible for typo's) |

| | Re: Coming on board Hey Hexhead, Welcome! Don't worry bout age. I wish I was "pushin 60" instead of 70. The whole idea is to have fun. I just started a year and a half ago, and still not a very good carver, but am I having fun? You bet. And a lot of the carving fun is because of some of the great folks on this board...Tom H |

| | Re: Coming on board Hello Hexhead,
I am reaching my anniversary date of being a carver for one year so don't worry about being a newbie as there's a number of us. I've gone at it pretty hard for the last year and some say I've done 3-4 years worth of carving. It's a hobbie for me but also a passion. Hope you enjoy the board. Lots of experienced carvers to chat with to help you learn and improve.

| | Re: Coming on board Welcome aboard Hexhead, ain't no experts here. Use to say an expert was someone you paid to come from more than 50 mile away! With the internet, we're all just nano-seconds away, so enjoy carving and call yourself what ever you like.
