Not that I like talking about myself but I do like to know about other people. I find that the more people you know and the more you know about them makes you a better person.
Having said that I will tell you a little about myself with out it sounding like a " I love me" message. I was born in England in 1942 my father was in the Canadian Army station in England. There he met my mother and after the war was over in 1945 he took his release in England and stayed until I was 16 when we returned to Canada. I joined the army and spent 26 years until I was offered a job with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. 12 years later they replaced both my hips and I was forced to retire. I needed something more in my life so I took up woodcarving I had always been interested. I used to paint wild life pictures in oil and dabbled in taxidermy for a number of years so I was somewhat artistic. Driftwood was my first medium and later I switched to logs and now to where I carve mainly trees. I guess I have been carving on and off for about seven years but really busy with it for 5 years now. This message board has become a huge part of my life and has taught me to step out of my comfort zone with the encouragement of the members here. I now carve bark, basswood, and my passion which is Santa's. This is an excellent thread I am looking forward to hearing all about everyone here.

Colin, visited your home page. Your love of, and ability carving, woodspirits is obvious. I especially liked the introduction on the homepage and explanation under legend. I like to place people geographically. Tried to find Thornton in the atlas and could not. Where are you in Ontario?

It is probably no wonder you couldnt find Thornton on the map. Thornton is a small town in Southern Ontario Canada population on a good day maybe 500 people. Thornton is situated about 60 miles north of Toronto, and about 10 miles south of Barrie, Ontario. Barrie is has a population on about 150,000. In Canada that is considered a substantial size city. Thanks for visiting my web site I am in the process of updating it. It is very out of date I dont have any of the carvings listed on the site anymore. Check back next week should have it updated by then.

Great idea for you to introduce yourself, I like it, I've come to know you through your various posts, but this is a great all-in-one introduction, I think we'll see more one-on-one introductions from other members.

Enjoyed your web site too.

Hope some day we can connect, the Niagara Falls Ontario show is coming up April 2 & 3rd, you should put a piece in.

Colin, hope you are hunkered down carving up there. Read your message about Thornton's location, looked around the board for awhile and then went to the favorites I have bookmarked for reading the news on the internet.

The first headline I saw was Ontario hit by white-outs and blizzard! The accompanying picture brought back memories of my winters in SW Wyoming.

Stay warm and don't work on tree trunks right now.
