Default carving faces and expressions

I'm doing pretty good now in characture carving. I've not been a member here long and I have joined a carving club where I get lots of help. I do have one large problem and that is carving faces and facial expressions. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum, virwil. I'm not too good at carving faces either, but head over to the Wood Carving Tutorial section of the forum and you'll find some stuff. A number of people have YouTube tutorials of carving faces, like Gene Messer, Lynn Doughty (those come to mind without going and digging). Also look in the Caricature Carving section of the forum for answers to your questions. As far as books go, there was a thread (over in the Sticks and Cane Carving section) about Skylar Johnson's book of doing woodspirits in sticks, Tom Wolff has one called "Carving Traditional Woodspirits", as well as "Carving Woodspirits and Walking Sticks". Also check out the "Carving Resources" link to the left under WCI Community, along with "Videos", "Step-By-Step", and "Reviews" in the links list above that.

Hope that helps.

Stephen

Thanks for the input, Stephen. By the way, my name is Bill. The user name was just easy to remember for we have used it before in other places. It is the first three letters of my wife's name and the first three of mine, William.
