I bought a set from Grizzly (awful-sent them back (demand full credit incl shipping and they will do it)) and the reviews I read about the Buck Bros. set at Home Depot say they are almost as bad as the Grizzly stuff. I build raised panel doors and have a commission to build a set of french doors with a distressed by gouging appearance (probably a lousy description but if you gouge the wood until there isn't a flat area it'll give you a picture, I guess). I need 1/4" and 3/8" at least but a quality set would be nice. I used a set from Harbor Freight to do a set of doors for my home but the steel is so soft I have to resharpen the gouge every 15 or 20 strokes. Thanks for any help. |

Pfeil, Henry Taylor, and Two Cherries are very good brands. Amoung others listed on this site previously. An internet search will give you sources, or give your location and someone will give you options. |

First off, welcome to the forum Steven. I know that you have already had names like Drake, Denny, Flexcut, Ashley Isles, Henry Taylor, Pfeil, Robert Sorby, Stubai, Two Cherries thrown at you... It's quite a bit to handle when you first start. Im not sure of your situation, but i would guess to imagine that you are very cost conscious about what you buy... If not, then i would suggest Pfeil(file), Two Cherries or Stubai. If you are cost consious, there is a company by the name of Ramelson, which produces inexpensive, but yet quality chisels that might be to your liking... There is a question of sharpening and stroping, but i'm sure you will be please with the results. They're a company located in New Jersey. Google it,... and see if you can find a dealer near you... Good Luck!
