Default Brand Spanking New

Hi,
My husband just got me the Dremel Stylus for Christmas and Im sooo excited and cant wait to do some projects...I have never done any kind of woodcarving before but im very eager to learn how to do some things...I was wondering if anyone could tell me what all I can do with wood with my Stylus and what kinds of wood would be suitable because I really have no clue what all I can do with it...Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks so much!!

first thing! Get a dust mask! As far as what you can do, I think only your imagination will stop you there! Have fun and welcome

Congratulations, the Dremel Stylus is a great little tool. It has high speed, but not a lot of torque (power) so is designed for a light touch. I use mine for smoothing areas after carving with a regular Dermel rotary tool with heavier burrs, or a Foredom. It is like a cordless micromotor. It is also good for shaping scales and feathers and muscle shapes. With patience, you can use it for just about anything you put you mind to, in shaping wood, but use a light touch and take your time. You could invest in some more burrs, it comes with four I believe, but try it with those first to get the feel of it.

I'll jump in here, and recommend Tupelo wood, as its light, and easier to carve. Try a flat Christmas ornament, like the star of the east, draw or trace it on a 1/2 in thick, piece of tupelo or basswood, a coping saw or scroll saw will cut out the pattern, then shape the points with your dremel. A Santa face drawn on a piece of 1/2 in thick tuplelo or basswood, would be fun for a starter. Hope this helps. Have fun.
