Default Brand New Old Guy

Hello folks, my name is SafetyBill, well my name is Bill and no my mother did not name me Safety. I just happen to run across this site while searching for carving. I once carved along time ago, I'll send pictures. I haven't carved in many years and my family was fighting over who gets what carvings when I'm gone (friendly fight) that I realized I have more family than carving's so, here I am. Back in the mid 60's in Germany I had a Sunday off, so off to the "Beer Garden" I went, on the way I noticed several people flying remote control airplanes off the side of the mountain. I stopped to watch the event. Well, one of the planes got out of range of the controler and came right at my car. It hit my passenger door and put a big dent in it. Ze Plane, well it was everywhere, the German gentleman the owned the plane came up to me and said he would fix my car. When I went to his home there were many carvings on his walls and ofcourse I asked why so many and he said he carved and painted pictures to sale to get money to support his airplane hobby. Their is alot more to this story but, I'll save it for another time. I feel in love with carving but, through time I lost interest. What he tought me during that time is still there, that burning desire to once again do something I really loved long ago. I look forward to talking with you folks, The New Guy.

Welcome, Bill - Many of us would like to hear "the rest of the story," when you have time. We'd also be interested in photos of your past carvings.
Like you I have family members who may want my carvings when I'm gone. After 60+ years, I may have enough.

Welcome to the forum Bill. I was getting a visual of your car after that plane hit it...ouch.
Looking forward to those carving pics.
Take care and look out for low flying aircraft.

Thank You, Jim, Mike and, Phil, for the warm welcome. Very nice work Phil I liked your pictures. Mike, I will give you the "rest of the story" soon but, I'm at work now. Jim, the model airplane's or the one that hit my car has, no, let me say "had", a wing span of 8 feet, tip to tip. I felt bad that my car destoryed his plane. He said not to worry he would have it fixed and be flying next weekend, if not he had more and man did he have more. One thing I forgot to tell ya! the German Flying Ace, did not speck English and, I spoke no German.

Hi Bill and Welcome. My Family was like that when I first started carving and got out of the Remote Controled Aircraft,[ Airplanes and Helicopters], they even wanted my practice blocks to put on their walls. Looking back now it gave me a good feeling to know someone liked what I was doing. Again welcome and give your family something to fight over [nicely] again. Looking forward in seeing some of your pieces. Merle
