Default Better Late Than Never!

Hello to All you carvers. Thanks to a good local friend, I just found out about this website and this forum. I can see right now it will be a boon to me!.

I am a Kansas carver who has been carving for about 20 years now. I do caricatures, santa's and chip carving mainly, but like to try new things. I recently retired and set up a "man cave" with my three favorite pastimes, carving, my ham radio and of course, the computer.

I am a member of the Great Plains Woodcarvers and we just concluded our 42nd Annual Show on Sunday. Congratulations to Lynn Doughty for his Best of Show "Trouble on the Water". It is a magnificent piece.

Don't know that I will post many blogs but will certainly be doing a lot of reading and learning. Thank You WCI for making this possible.

Welcome Ed,
This is a wonderful forum to hang out on. The talent collected in this one place, is awesome. Congratulations on getting to see Lynn's carving in person too. We are lucky to have him here.....

Please post some of your work when you can. We love to see what everyone is up to.

Hi Susie: I usually don't compete but this year I did. I'm adding a picture of my third place caricature group and my first in Novice. Hopefully this will post as I am very new to this.

Hi Ed,
the picture didn't come up in your post. Did you resize? They do have to be sized down to post here. I use those Microsoft "power toys" I think they're called. A free Microsoft program for resizing pictures. Very user friendly.
There are also a few posts scattered through out the boad on resizing. I can't wait to see your carving.

Welcome, Ed.
Glad you found this great message board. I get out your way once or twice a year to carve birds with Bob Monroe. Great bunch of local carvers. You'll find lots of ideas here--hope they are helpful.

Hi Mottles:Thanks for the warm welcome and the very helpful info on loading pictures. I will spend some time tomorrow and see if I can make it work. Would like to post a couple.

To Donna T: Bob Munroe is a great bird carver and excellent teacher. I've been through two of his classes my self. Now that I have the time, I hope I can do another one. Our Wichita show just concluded last weekend and there were some great bird carvers there. In fact, the talent this year was outstanding. Anytime people like Gerald Copeland, Desiree Hajny, Gerald Sears, Ed Zinger, Lynn Doughty and many others come together, you know you're going to see something special.

Thanks again for the info and welcome.

For those who asked about pictures. Here are two pixs, one of my corral scene from the Wichita show, and a tree santa also done for the show. Ed

Hi Ed, check your image size in your photo program. WCI allows for the message board 780 wide by 580 tall in pixel format only. Try using 'JPG' in that size and see if your images will upload. The Carver Galleries on this site allows larger images.

Hi Kathy: Sure appreciate your help. I had sent a private message to BobD (technical editor) and he gave me the same links you provided. I followed each but no avail. I'm going to try it one more time then if it doesn't work, I will just wait until something changes. I just previewed it and nothing. I just don't have a way to resize yet.

Thanks for helping
Ed
