Welcome Wood Lover!
This is a great place to get help with carving and finishing issues. If you don't find answers right way, be sure to go back through old postings and you may find it already back in archived postings.

Good luck and come back often.

Welcome Woodlover!! You have found a great place. Good to have you here.

You might want to ask your technical question the general woodcarving, or beginning woodcarving forum. There is a better chance for more folk to notice it there, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone found it here also.

Make sure the knife is very sharp, use the strop often, and pay attention to the direction of the grain. Not sure exactly how your cuts look, but the above covers some of the usual problems.
