| | Beginner Hello everyone, I am new to wood carving & new to this board. Looking forward to learning from the best.
I live in a small south Georgia community. There is nowhere to get carving wood of any kind. Any suggestions on where to get some Basswood carving blocks? |

| | Re: Beginner Welcome Gonoles. There are a large number of online suppliers for basswood and if you have a Hobby Lobby or Michael's Crafts anywhere near you can get some basic sizes there. Order from the online suppliers if you can. The quality is usually much better. |

| | Re: Beginner Hi Beginner,
If there are any Woodcraft Stores in your area, they generally will have blocks of basswood, butternut, and tupelo in stock. Welcome to the forum, and good luck in your carving pursuits.

Kitaye is correct about Michaels, Hobby Lobby...etc.. but their prices are out of sight. Even with shipping and handling you can save money by ordering from Heineke Wood or even Smoky Moutain Woodcarvers Supply ( http://www.woodcarvers.com/basswood.htm ). Ducksdown is also correct in that basswood is available from Woodcraft but it's been my experience that they stock their shelves with what ever they can get the cheapest and at least down here in Florida that appears to be southern basswood which is neither clear or soft. Quality varies drastically from piece to piece.
