Hello jeremy, sorry I can't help you with finding local carvers in your area--but I sure can welcome you to WCI Message Board. We have a lot of excellent carvers on this site and by just looking and reading the posts from them you'll pick up a lot of how to info. Whew that was a long sentence!

Welcome Jeremy: You might try the Wilderness Center in Wilmot. They have a carving club that meets on Sat. mornings. RobK

Jeremy,
Welcome to the world of carving. I, like you have a rigorous work schedule and with family there is limited time for participating or even finding carving groups. As you most likely already know the information packed within WoodCarving Illustrated and within this message board is educational for all skill levels of carvers, and I have found everyone here to be extremly helpful. So do not feel like any question is to trivial to post, I have found that someone will provide you with the answer you are looking for.

Carving,
Jerry

jeremy, Welcome to the forum/board. There should be some fine carvers in your area. Mansfield has some real fine carving shows. I am in Delaware, about 50 miles south. There's a good carver in Mt Vernon. Keep in touch through the forum and maybe we can get together some time and share some carving tips and experiences. The Columbus Chippers is having a show next Saturday and Sunday, at the Janis Center at the State Fair grounds. If you're down this way stop in... Tom H

Hi Jeremy, I was raised in Berlin, but left the area in 1977, so I'm not a lot of help, but would also recommend that you get in touch with the Wilmot club. It's a great club, they put on great shows, just had one the weekend of the 15th. I've visited the club when I've made trips back to the area and they're just great people. They may be able to direct you to a carver a little more local to your area. Don't know if Wooster has a club or not.

Welcome to this forum, more great people!

Welcome aboard! Don't let the lack of a carving group slow you down from learning. Get yourself a good basic book on carving, some wood and tools, and get to it! Lots of good starter books available, Chris Pye has one and so does Rick Butz, both available from Fox Chapel, and probably at your local library.

Carve on!

Bob
