Cool Bandaids

Hi

How many Bandaids do I need to partipate in carving?

And what about these other mending methods I hear about, like crazy glue and red pepper?

I will try and keep all my fingers.

any good tutorials for sharpening?

About me, I am about 50 live in South Dakota I just got laid off, so I have some spare time to explore this hobby.

nice to meetcha

Mmmm might consider a tornique ?

Like you I'm attached to my digits, and still got them all after 2 years chippin way.

As you'll have already assumed, rightly, that I'm not the brightest bulb.

Making allowances for that it took me a year to put the edge I wanted on my knives.

Now there are as many ways to sharpen as there are carvers. If your beginning a good and cheap way is wet and dry sand paper, small outlay.
Begin with the roughest and work your way to the finest. Tthen strop, and strop.
If you go to u tube there are tutorials.
Basical lay the wetted paper on a piece of glass and sharpen. However use the tutorials.
You could do a lot worse than join this group.
There are some good carvers and everyone has helped me.

why do the threads start with the newest post?

to read what a topic is about you have to go to the last page of a thread to see what the first post said

John a tourniquet maybe handy if I use a chainsaw...

bandaids are a must, just try to keep your fingers and hands behind the sharp edges!! most of my nicks and cuts have been putting tools up or getting them out!! seems ya get a little lax when your doing this instead of carving..amd the super glue works real well!! i play guitar and when i played in bands in clubs this was a standard item in your gig bag so you could fix a split finger and keep playing.

I like keeping all of my fingers too.
I'd recommend to have at least 3 spare (Meaning 3 more than you have on at the time, LOL) band-aids, where you can find them easily. I haven't tried "crazy glue", myself, but I have had it used in an actual surgery before.
I also have a friend that swears by cayenne pepper.
(Duct tape is also handy at times too.)

I have used many a bandaid and much like Daddio most of my injuries occur when putting chisels away. I also have used the glue. My recomendation is a carving glove for the off hand and the rubber fingertips for the carving hand thumb. The rubber tips are the brown ones available at office supply places. They are very cheap and (less than a buck a piece) and work better than the leather ones as they fit better and stay on. Enjoy the addiction. Hope the jobfront gets better for you.

In my experience, having bandaids in my bag prevents cuts. It's only when they aren't handy is when you get cut!

Kind of like carrying an umbrella to insure a sunny day.
