[twig]

Hello! I'm twig and I've been lurking for a little while now. I'm totally new to carving of any sort. I got a really nice Dremel with the Flex Shaft for my birthday in April and have been learning to carve with it. I've been doing it all on my own with no instruction and having a great time with it. I would like to learn more about carving and especially learn more about finishing my pieces.

I'm learning to carve hair forks and hair sticks for my own personal use. I use the Dremel to basically just cut out then rough cut my pieces and carve close to the lines, then sand paper mostly to finish it with. I also love using the sanding bits with my Dremel .. I use those to bevel edges and such.

Here's the first and second hair forks I made. The finny fork isn't finished yet, I'm just trying to figure out what color I want to stain the wood. I'm liking this warm gold, though. These are both made from poplar. I really like the wood grain.

Hello and welcome, well this is different from what we usally see on the boards.
I love them, wish I had long hair I'd try my hand at powercarving some too.

Welcome aboard Twig, and well done on the hair forks. For someone who says they don't have a clue about carving, you have a great eye and perhaps some natural inclination to it. Keep on doing what you're doing, that is learning how the tools work and what they can do. Have fun with it and practice lots.
