Default Another New Guy

Hello. I just found this group and am overwhelmed with the info. I began carving in 2004. I made alot of firewood in that time. I stopped for 18 months when our twins were born and recently have started up again.

My dream is to have $5K drop into my lap and be forced to spend it all on tools. I would then retire VERY early and become a carving hermit. I am not very talented and have to work hard but I love carving. When I figure out how to transfer pics from our new digital camera I will post some of my stuff. I like carving hiking sticks (wood spirits). I want to start carving larger items. I have an endless supply of driftwood and love pine knot carvings. I found the thread on the poor mans carving bench.....I am heading to Home Depot next pay day.

Thanks,
Jerry H. in Maryland

Hello Jerry,
Welcome to our forum. You'll definitely find help and inspiration from our members. When you have time, search through old postings to find past topics that may be of interest to you.

I think most of us dream of having unlimited cash to spend at the carving tool shop but, alas, most of us just buy one or two tools at a time as the cash "stash" allows. And we have a constant "wish list" for more.

If you have twins under 2 years, I can't imagine that you have much time for any carving, but hang in there, that will change. In the twinkle of a eye, they'll be grown and gone. Enjoy them while you can. Carve when you can but know there will be years and years ahead of you when you can carve.

Welcome, Jerry. I'm not sure if this hobby is more about carving or collecting tools But, whatever, it is very addicting and satisfying.

Hey Jerry,

Welcome to the site. Look forward to chatting with you. Woodspirits are my stable carvings, and I have done a few on walking sticks in the past - mine just tend to have grown over the years.
