Default I am a new member that didn't know what to do

I entered to identify myself as a new member at the wrong place by replying to a post.
I am a new member as of today and I guess it will take me a while to get used to this messageing.
I am from a small hamlet north east of Toronto Can.
I haven't carved in over 40 years and at that time it was soapstone.
I just found a seniors group that does wood carving and I joined about 2 years ago and am loving it. I do not have that uncany ability to visualize and carve on my own so the classes are great, and the instruction is terrific.
I never thought that I would be able to understand how to carve from a drawing but my first project, I think went great. I believe that I have uploaded a picture of an Artic turn my first ever carving and wood burning project

Well sir, the important thing is, you found us. Welcome aboard, there are lot of great carvers on here, and whatever your pleasure, you will find pictures of the subject by some very talented and not so talented carvers. Unfortunately, I fall into the latter group, but you see, that is not a problem, the main thing is, we are all doing something that we truly enjoy. I very much like your bird carving as I'm sure do all the others that will view it. Thanks for posting the picture from a fellow Canadian.
Cliff

I found that in some cases this could be an expensive hoby when on a fixed income. Thank goodnes my dad taught me to make things when you can't afford to buy them. Therefore I made my own carving knives out of band saw blades, and as far as the wood burning goes, I paid a lot af attention to how the others burnt the feathers and then built my own power supply and tips
I am afraid to say, but although I did the work, the instructor pointed the way and corrected me when I was drifting.
The thing that I shouldn't do is to seal the wood in preparation for painting!!! I can't paint. So all of my projects are going to have to be ploished or stained and polished.
Thank you all for the comments and encouragement
Gary
