Since I can't choose basswood, I have to choose butternut. It's easy to carve and looks nice too. The poplar looked really nice but I found it had a grain similar to pine and so tended to chip out on finer details. |

| | Re: your favorite carving wood? Mahogany and Butternut, they both are a delight to carve, though getting the right Mahogany is becoming harder and more expensive. Cherry would be my other favorite.
