Default Wood Pile

I have a small wood pile in the yard. It's probably been out there for 2 years now. I believe it's an assortment of spruce and pine. Does anyone know if it would make good carving wood or if it would have too hard to work with?

Shane,
Only one way to find out, and you got nothing to lose and everything to learn. That is how I started, I grabbed some kind of wood that I still don't know what it was but it carved well. The other pieces were garbage. Then I used aspen from my yard and still play with maple and pearwood. I buy wood for select projects [Heineke]
You might even get some good wood from blowdowns in your neighborhood.
