| | Re: wood on ebay So did I do the math right? Each one is .3333 bf and if I did buy it now, it would be $25 for all 6 pieces? That would make it about $12.50 per bf.... since I am new to carving in the round soon, should I buy this? Can I get it local to me?
Thanks,

| | Re: wood on ebay Well, I picked up 1/2 bf of tupelo about 1.5" x 1.5" x 16" long and had it chopped into 3 pieces for $2.72 at a local wood place here.... will be a good starter...
This thread has been interesting in itself on the board foot deal....

| | Re: wood on ebay Let's see how my math is.
2 BD FT @ $15.00(BuyItNow) = .052 per cubic inch or $7.50 per BD FT., a fair price, but not a bargain.
With shipping $15 + $10 = $25.00
2 BD FT @ $25.00 = .087 per cubic inch or $12.50 per BD FT.
Itasca = .051 cu. in. or $7.35 bd ft.
Heineke = .031 cu. in. or $4.46 bd ft.
I don't have shipping cost for these suppliers.
Of course quality is a factor in buying carving wood.
The finest basswood I have carved was like carving a block of cheese.
(It came from a company that is now out of business.)
The worst I have carved was like carving a pine knot.
(it came from one of the most highly respected wood suppliers)
