Talking I've been Looking for yew...

...lol...that just sounds cute...
Anyway...corny puns aside...Anyone have any yew lying about? This is my most favorite wood and I thought that since so many folks make their own tool handles and such...well, I'm just hopin' some might turn up. Here's hopin!

You have it up there where you are and farther north.......a friend had an old yew tree in his backyard.....had been cut off and the trunk used as a clothesline pole a hundred years or so ago, maybe more....he handed me a hammer and a 16 penny nail and said drive this in it.....uh right.....geez, stuff is like iron!

Hiya! Your right, it does grow around here. There is also a hefty fine if you cut it, good thing I like to use salvaged wood. I am looking for older orangier pieces to make my hair combs and stix with. I like the darker edges and the orangiest parts. If you have that lyin about, I would gladly pay shipping!
I have to tell you that Yew from the UK is what I have dreamt about! It would be amazing to have some! I would be in your debt!

Hello again,

I was just slicing some yew for a new project and thought about you. The picture should give you some idea of the colour. The school ruler (standard 300mm) should give some idea of the size. The problem is that airmail from me to you costs about £20 ($40) a kilo. You could have it free if any carver who happened to be visiting from the US would volunteer to take it back for you. Worth thinking about?

OH THAT IS LOVELY! Do you have a Pay Pal Account? I could send you $ that way, if you don't, I can send $order. Just let me know how much it ends up costing. Over here in the states, we have flat rate shipping boxes. Do you have anything like that where you are? No Matter! I definately want it! Maybe you could send a hanky with it so I don't get drool all over it when opening it? Actually, I think Drool might be good for it!

Sorry not to get back to you earlier. I needed to make and carve a couple of christening stools for clients in a big hurry. What sizes, thickness etc. do you use? Theres little sense in sending you wood which might end up as waste. I can slice it as thin as 5 or 6 mm without too much hassle. My email address is arapsang@btinternet.com. You could use this to let me know where to send the wood. The yew actually comes from France. It was planted near a flaxmill in Brittany sometime before the French Revolution and needed surgery about 5 years ago. I was lucky enough to get some of the logs.

Hope to hear from you soon
