 Tropical wood suggestions I am retired near Guadalajara, Mexico. I have been unable to find much information on which tropical woods would be good for carving. Any help on where to find this info would be greatly appreciated.  |

| Re: Tropical wood suggestions Hi Andy, Some of the tropical woods I have seen pictures of carvings in are cocobolo (rosewood), spanish cedar, bocote, and goncalo aves. All of these except the cedar are hardwoods and may be more difficult to carve than the usual basswood, butternut white pine, and cedar generally used here in the U.S. Good whittlin, Cliff Charles City, Iowa http://cliffordparker.tripod.com |

| Re: Tropical wood suggestions Cedar is the best tropical carving wood. Mexicans used a lot of Copal which is simmilar to Basswood but a little softer. I which I can retire to Mexico. I love OAXACA Doel |
