Default What tree is this from?

Does anyone know what tree these leaves come from? The big one is 11 1/2" in diameter. The leaves have a fuzzy, velvety feel to them and they're a little sticky. The inner wood of the branches is very white and, like the Sumac, has a hole running down the center in segments like bamboo. The wood is soft.

Looks like Paulownia, an import from Japan.

I think AlArchie has it. I understand it is being grown here in the states in groves because it grows pretty fast and produces lots of wood quickly.

Hi Al and Jim. You're absolutely correct. I did an image search on the paulownia leaf, dead match.

Did you know Jimmy Carter grows Paulownia trees for the wood? He made a cabinet out of it which sold for $230,000.

I'm going to carve a Paulownia stick and try to get $10,000 if the wood's that valuable. LOL!

Thanks guys.

Well Ron maybe if you change your name to Jimmy Carter?
You know he is an acomplished woodworker and does most of his work with antique handtools. Must be nice following a presidency to be able to find a lucrative part time job.

Hi Jim,

While I was searching, I came across a site that was promoting Paulownia as a commercial wood.

BTW, call me "Jimmy, too" and I have a walking stick for sale, discounted by 50% to only $5000.

That's because they both belong to the bignonia family.
