Default What size blanks are you looking for?

I may have some more basswood logs coming my way again this summer. What are the sizes that most of you are looking for that are hard for you to get?

I do mostly busts and Greco-roman inspired figures so I look for large dimensions to build up from; 3" or 4" X 8" or 10" X 30" or 40" typically. I usually build them up from local woods as Basswood gets expensive.

4"X 5"X 12"
4"X 6"X 14"
5"X 8"X 14" These are all sizes that work well for some of the multi character charicatures that I like to do.

basswood growing in the south is nonexistant as far as i know.

im trying localy to get a source for tupergum stumps cut out of the swamp to offset my costs of my habbit/addiction. not having much luck pulpwood haulers dont advertise here, and the stumps are usualy just left to rot in the swamps.

basswood isent hard to obtain i get it off the web from henikel i think its a fair price but yet still expencive, to get a stockpile.
maybe if there was a way to cut prices by leaving it rough or selling miscut unsquair pieces, drops maybe a grab box becuse hardly ever do you know what your going to carve next.

i needed a piece of 3/4" basswood today, my choice was use a 2x2x12 practice stick or buy a basswood plaque from a hobby store for $12.00 becuse i needed a scrap as big as 2 fingers....

look up the seller, fullcycle, on ebay. They sell a lot of Southern Basswood, both on and off ebay. They sell a lot of other beautiful woods too, all kiln dried. Lots of Folks prefer Northern Basswood, but Southern from fullcycle is great wood. It may be the same tree as linden, but not sure.
check out their sycamore too! I don't think wood gets any prettier than their quarter-sawn sycamore!

Not to many selling a solid piece like that. Most the time I hear they are glueing them together to achieve a thickness.

Where in the UP Are you?

If anyone has a need, I have some quite large pieces of basswood left that are listed on this page.
