Default seasoning wood HoBo style

With a few simple steps you can have your own stock pile of qty carving wood.

#1 Immediately after cutting or picking up your green wood seal the end grain with wax, glue, paint etc
#2 I always spray my wood with a miner borer killer or use a powder mixed with water to prevent bugs and worms in the wood.Always read the label.
#3 Get the wood off the ground, cement blocks, bricks, etc make sure the to store the wood were it gets good air. storing wood in a damp basement is a bad idea.
#4 stickers 1/2 '' thick will do place directly above one another 12 to 18'' apart to avoid bending of the carving stock and have good air flow while seasoning.
#5 Cover the wood from rain . as a rule of thumb 1'' per year air drying .

If space is in question or if you have a few small peices of carving stock you can make a kiln using plywood and styrofoam make a box the size of your choice install the foam inside the plywood box and incert a small fan and one light bulb into the box this works great having a moisture meter for this works nice .

knowing this might help guys
Borradad-Wood preservative/ Insect control
Disodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate
Is non-Irritating to eyes and does not cause Irritation to skin
also small amounts swallowed accidentally are not likely to cause effects
Borradad-Is not a known carcinogen
so spray it on good men and kill'em all.

Hobo,

Borrada d-Wood preservative/ Insect control appears to be very safe for humans, not so safe for the listed bugs.

The only problem I see with this type of treatment is that it will not kill any bugs (larvae) that are already in the wood until they bore their way to the surface.

Spraying this on found wood might not eliminate any bug infestation.

Just a thought.
