Default Red alder, anyone?

Hiya!

Earlier this week, we had a big windstorm which knocked out power for almost 2 days and dumped a bunch of trees. Several of my woodlot alders blew down or lost the tops. Usually I just cut it into firewood, but it occurs to me that if anyone likes to carve in alder, I could ship some to you. Maybe trade for a sample of your local wood?

I carved a sign in alder some time ago, and it came out okay. It tends to darken with age, and get kinda yellowy... (Sorry about the lousy pic)

If you've got some ocean-caught coho salmon, I can't think of a better thing than smoking it with alder chips. In fact, my neighbor puts down a tarp when he cuts it into firewood, to save the chips!

If you want some, probly what I'll do is fill a flat rate postal box. Do you want straight grain or some figure? Or just a box of chips?

I haven't worked with any larger pieces of red alder but LOVE it for waking sticks. The color and grain are simply lovely I.M.O.
