Does anyone know where we can get plate made of more hardwoods like maple, cherry, etc for our Gouge Chip carving method? The basswood is ok and readily available, but with this method I like working in the harder woods. Thanks, Sean |

Sean, Scroll sawers at the Tulsa carving show had Oak and cherry plates they had scroll saw. I would suggest Scrollsaw catalogs or that wood store you have there in Springfield. Garon(carver6) was telling me about the different woods they had so I suspect they would have the plates opr could tell you where you could get some. Or even Mr Russ Hewitt could help you there as he had Oak plates at the show and other Gouge Chip carvings on different woods.

Kenny, Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I will swing into OP Hardwoods... twist my arm. I know they don't have plates... but maybe they can make them? Just must get up there in price. Speaking of Russ... he was in Tulsa at the show this last weekend. Think he was just visiting and seeing the stuff. Sean |

Nah, Russ and his lovely wife had a booth there and he was holding courtm well, converting some over to gouge chipcarving and he had a lot of that at his booth. I did not get to talk to him as I was looking and found Garon and Lynn. Met Lynn Friday and went back down Saturday and met Garon(carver6) and spend some time with both Garon and Lynn. But Mr. Hewitt was demostrating his technique to several people and notice a scrol saw buddy of mine from Bartlesville Ok over talking with Mr. Hewitt and trying out his technique. Maybe we will see a new Gouge Chip artist soon. I have not been to OP Hardwoods but Garon talked about it. May have to make a stop there one of these trips through SF.
