I have tried paulownia,a piece from a plantation in northern New South Wales.
I found it to be very soft and would not hold detail.
I gave it to the garbage man.

I carved a santa out of a piece that Goody sent me...it carves different than say basswood, but was fun to carve and did hold detail....
