Default Paulonia

Anyone out there done any carving with Paulonia? I friend of mine brought me up a large piece from the Chesapeake region. Using edge tools it seems to tear out frequently. What are your experiences? Tips and hints???

Goody , uses it a lot and I love it. Although many carvers seem to have issues a lot is caused from tool bevels and carving style . Check your tools that are not draging or pulling.

These are out of paulonia .

wow - I am impressed! Thanks Ash. I am working on a 15" swan. Less detail, but ALOT of roughing out work, at this point. Maybe that's the main difference.

I picked up some in Tennessee. Carves nice, did'nt have any problems, looks like white butternut. Another name for Paulonia is Princes tree. Paulonia is origionally from China, the seeds came from packing used to protect fragile items shipped by rail. At one time most of the trees grew along the rail tracks.
