Talking Odds and Ends

Hello...reading the last thread about Large amounts of wood, got me thinking...Can I put out a thread saying I am looking for wood? If not and this goes against some kind of rule, please delete my post immediately and tell me, I will slap myself on the wrist, albeit not hard, my arthritis is flaring.
I make smaller pieces, Hair Combs, Sticks, jewelry and dolls.
I have a small collection of hardwoods in my shop, but I would love to update it. I use salvaged wood, which is great...especially if you were going to chuck it anyway! I would absolutely love to start a collection from people all across the country. I plan on Labeling anything that comes in with who what and the where of it all. Then when I create a piece, I know who's in it with me!
The prize of my collection is my Yew. (((Siiiiigh)))I have a love affair going with it, truly. I only have a smidgen left and I am wondering if there are any other people out there with some Yew Lying around? Any other smaller pieces of hardwood you don't know what to do with? Consider me your burn pile! I've been called worse...not lately...but I'm sure I have.
I will gladly pay shipping, as long as it is not astronomical.
Oh! I was given a great X mas gift!!! My neighbor found a dead Manzanita in his horse pasture and he cut it down for me and cut it all into usable lengths and shoved it in a boot box. That was so fun to open!!! My husband laughed and said he tried to hard...Lol...as if that could happen!
Thank you so much! Hope to hear from you soon!

Uh-oh--I was only trying to help you so that others might know what you're looking for. I was thinking that if you have wood that you can swap from your salvaged wood with someone else, then you'd have a wood swap. For example, I have some typical pallet wood--I think it's aspen--looks, smells, and tastes like popsicle stick wood. LOL Pieces are 1x6, 1x4, and some 2x4 left. Lengths vary--still has some nails and nail holes. It is good to carve but is rough surfaced. So if you wanted to glue up for thicker than 1", you'd need to surface it. That's why I ask you if had a wish list.

What's tan oak--as in white oak as opposed to red oak?

Ha HA HA...Bob...see what happens when I get all excited?! I forgot to mention what I have to SWAP!
Tan Oak Is Tan...Oak. More color than white Oak, but definately not Red. It's a Valley Oak.
I Have Tan Oak, Nutmeg,Manzanita, and Madrone
If you have never worked with Nutmeg...lemme tell ya...It's a pleasure! Very Soft, easy carve, smells wonderful and a very very rich yellow. It is 1x4". It went through the local lumber mill years ago and my dad in law pulled it aside. Mmm boy.
My Tan Oak is all Rough Cut, But it is beautiful. I use it for spoons and hand mirrors, whatever else. When I need a hunk of wood, thats what I grab...I step out onto the porch and grab a hunk.
The Manzanita is amazing, odd grains, tough tough, beautiful and sand like glass. The red in it is stellar.
My Madrone is very beautiful! When it is sanded and sealed, It looks like leather to me. It is a very smooth and feminine wood. I have Huge Boards of it that I cut into when I need a piece.
So, hopefully that sounds better.
I'll Swap Or Pay Shipping, I really want some different woods that I can't find around here.
Oh yeah...I have Redwood. Boards and pieces. (Yawn)
I have one huge chunk of it that is a Shake Bolt? Very Straight Grian, Very Redwood.
Thanx Bob!

I might be interested in a wood swap, although most of what I have is in the round with the bark still on. I have Mt Laurel, a lot of it. On the bigger peices, I've sawn planks and used to make boxes. I do have some that is about 2 inches in diameter and about 10 or 12 inches long with the bark still on.

If you're interested, I'd be willing to swap for some manzinita or nutmeg? I could send a picture of the wood, but I'd have to hook up the other computer to access the pictures.

Thanks, Mike G. in SC

Oh...some Madrone might be okay too...lol.
