Question Need a Tupelo Wood Supplier

Hi, First message. I have been a wood worker for about 30 years. Making childrens toys, rockers, pyrography and a little carving. I am just starting a little power relief carving. I have always used basswood for burning but I am finding it fuzzes a bit in power carving. Several reference books note Tupelo as an excellent wood for power. However, I cannot find a supplier around the Pittsburgh, Pa. area. Any one out there have an suggestions for a supplier even if I have to have it shipped.

Decoy carvers use a lot of tupelo, and there is an excellent show near Cleveland on March 15-16. The Ohio Decoy Collectors and Carvers Association has their show in Westlake, OH at the Holiday Inn. It's a good show with demonstrations, tutorials, decoy competitions (in the swimming pool), songbird and waterfowl competitions, and lots of vendors selling everything a power carver uses, including tupelo. It would be worth a trip over to see how it's done and to pick out some wood yourself. Mike

Exclamation Re: Need a Tupelo Wood Supplier

I recently bought some tupelo at the Easton Wildfowl Festical from Brad Ketrick form North Carolina. Roz Daisey recommended him and he has some very nice wood. He said to call anytime, tell him what I needed and he would ship. Send payment after I receive the wood.
His number is 919-625-4070.
Perhaps you could try his tupelo.
