| | Live in SLC Utah where to get wood? I'm sure this has been asked a few million times but after spending an hour or so looking here for posts on where to get wood I can't seem to find any close to me. I live in Salt Lake City Utah and was wondering where to order Basswood?
Also maybe someone could help me figure out what the heck this stuff means. LOL - 4/4 = 13/16''
- 5/4 = 1-1/8''
- 6/4 = 1-5/16''
- 8/4 = 1-13/16''
- 10/4 = 2-5/16''
- 12/4 = 2-13/16''
I want to get some 3x3x12 inch peaces and don't have a clue how to order it from this.
Thanks,
Marty |

McBeath Hardwood on 6th west, about 18th South stocks Basswood, I got some 2X12 pieces there recently, at a much better price than any online sources advertised, and no freight.
Good luck |

| | Re: Live in SLC Utah where to get wood? Corey has that pretty well explained, but if you want true 3" material, ask your supplier for rough cut or un-planed stock 3" thick. You'll have to clean it up yourself but if you will be carving it and don't care about the rough edges, it doesn't matter. And you can always clean up the rough stuff with a belt sander without loosing much material.
Rough cut may even be a mite less expensive...ask anyway.
Check Heineke for wood . I'll see if I can find a link. Or if you are a WCI subscriber, check their advertisers..there are quite a few suppliers in there.

Corey | So in other words a 4/4 is a 1" square block right? |

Hey the other day I was getting propane at Dill renter in west jordan and an old fellow was getting some too so I asked him was it for the garage projects and he said yes. We got talking and I told him I was thinking about getting back into carving and he said a bunch of folks meet weekly at the old whealer farm. Do you know anything about it by any chance?

Marty | 4 divided by 4 (4/4) = 1 and that is in inches.....
3" ~ 12/4 The vendors will sell it planed down a bit, so you generally do not get quite the full 3" |

There appears to be at least one supplier in the area. You can compare the prices to Heineke - MANY references on this site. |
