Shucks!! i thought somebody had found a new Dendrology site! Turns out this is the main Uni site for my favorite tree id site.

at a local book store i found a book, i believe was called "encyplopedia of wood" it listed quite a few and even gave little notes to each one as to it's pros and cons and what it would best be used for. i was thinking about picking it up and still might, but the down side is that it cost about $30.
