I would like to carve another Native American Bust this time out of Butternut. My problem is I'm having trouble finding butternut carving blocks. I would like to get one or two blocks 4" x 8" x 16" at a reasonable price. I know shipping is pricey so would like to get some locally if possible but certainly not manditory. I live in Edmonton Alberta Canada. Does anyone have or know where I can get some. Dan

If you can find a number for Terry Porter, at Florence Mt. , he generally has a good selection of butternut. Waterfowl woodworks. Tom

Riverwood: I have lost the links as I don't need them BUT, there are a bunch of "small wood" suppliers in the Vancouver area, a few more on Vancouver Island. Try searching the YVR Yellow Pages online. |

I agree with Randy, I just bought a bunch of Basswood and some Butternut from Wilcox Wood Works, at a carving show, good wood and great prices. Here is their contact info. Rod 715 466-2283 Wilcox Carving Wood Dave |

Dan...check out Welcome to The Black Forest Wood Company in Calgary. They carry a variety of specialty wood and might have what you're looking for.

There have been various suggested sources, though none has addressed your qualifier: "reasonable price". Butternut is getting increasingly rare due to insect infestations and regional protections (against tree removal). So you may have to adjust your expectations on price.
