| | Hangers ??? I am looking for a better hanger "loop" to put onto an ornament.
I've found the silver screw eyes, and even the gold/brass ones.
These often look less than graceful for my taste, and I'm looking for something a bit more elegant.
OK, I'm not a 'classy' guy, but want the ornament hanger to be a bit nicer!
Any suggestions?

| | Re: Hangers ??? Goody uses twisted wire. and glued it into the top , looks really nice.
I also thought about using ulta thin stainless whihc I did not have time to do , but I think it would be much better and enhance the carving compaired to the eyelet screws . |

| | Re: Hangers ??? If the ornament is not to heavy I have also seen and used jewelry findings (available at Michael's) they are also a small wire with a loop formed on one end and a straight rod on the other. predrill and glue.

| | Re: Hangers ??? I use to use 24 gauge colored wire twisted around a nail with a 1/4 shaft. Drilla small hole in top of ornament and glue in the looped colored wire. However, I was shown the errors of my ways and since use the smallest screw eyes. The 24 gauge wire can easily be bent and break. Screw eyes can be painted to look "elegant".

| | Re: Hangers ??? You can use the screw eyes and a ribbon as the hanger. Wrap the ribbon around the eye hook to hide it.
For my last group, I just drilled a hole and used gold thread for the hanger. They are light and small ornaments and this arrangement works quite well. |

| | Re: Hangers ??? One or two small holes (depending on your preference) and epoxy (maybe even Crazy Glue or carpenter's glue) in the ends of a loop of your favorite color fishing line. You can pinch the top of the loop if you want to minimize how much you see the loop. |

| | Re: Hangers ??? As Bob suggests, fishing stuff works fine. Small eyes from cut off fish hooks, or buy a small spool of 8/0 flyfishing tippet. This is clear monofilament, 0.003 inch diameter - about 1 pound test, available at all flyfishing shops, and most sporting goods stores. Tie the two ends together with an overhand knot, trim off the ends just past the knot, and stuff the knot down a 1/16 inch hole drilled in the ornament. Add a drop of Elmers glue squirted into the hole, wipe off the excess and let it dry. The glue dries clear, and the loop of tippet is clear.
I personally consider my ornaments to be "folk art" so for me, it's ok to have a screw eye showing. In fact my wife likes to tie a fancy cord or loop of ribbon on it.

| | Re: Hangers ??? Several years ago I was given an easy method. All the tools needed is a knife and needle nose pliers. Take a small gold fish hook, cut off the barb so that you are left with a straight piece ending in the eye of the hook, use the needle nose pliers to push this straight piece down into your ornament. Craft stores sell elastic decorative "twine" in rolls. I cut this off and tie it through the eye of the mutilated fish hook. Real easy, real quick, real cheap. |
