I've given up on using pewter cast legs and feet. To make my own I need brass rods 0.25 and 0.45. Can't find them anywhere...does anyone know who has them. I got the dimentions out of Guge's book on making feet and legs. Thank you so much, HelenThumbs Dow |

you can do a google search and find all kinds of places that sell brass rod...also we have a local hobby shop that has all kinds and shapes, and Home Depot here locally has brass rod. You will end up putting putty on the legs anyway so you can use steel rod...or even clothes hangers .

MDI woodcarvers up in Maine carrys a lot of brass rod and tubing in hobby sizes. I have always used different gauges of copper wire to make my bird feet much easier to work with. Goody

thanks so much. I live in Vancouver, WA. Home depot doesn't have this, here. Let me change my search to brass wire...not rods. Thanks again, Helen |

Somewhere in Vancouver is a model railroad or model airplane shop. Check there and I'm sure you will find brass rod and tubing. If that doesn't work, try a welding supply shop. Al |

Try a welding supply store. I buy very thin brass brazing wire that way. It comes in several sizes. Solders easy. I use it for all sorts of stuff.

Here is a link to a company that I did business with a few years ago when I did more wood working then carving. When I first read Helen's post that she wanted 0.25 and 0.45 stock I thought of this company, but I may be wrong after reading all the other posts, everyone is assuming that she wants .025 and .045 stock from the way everyone answered. Guess I'm the only one messed up! Anyway, here's the link www.micromark.com Bob |

thanks everybody for your suggestions. I've been living on the internet. Lori Corbett's book tells how to make legs and feet but doesn't say what metal and gauge is used. I couldn't find it. I'm looking for 17 and 20 gauge brass wires.

Hellen, if youfind a hobby shop that stocks brass wire you will probably have to ask for the size in thousandths of an inch and your first post was almost right. Wade called it, though. You should look for 25 or 45 thousandths diameter wire/ .025 inch and .045 inch. That corresponds with 20 and 17 gauge wire size. Al |

Lynn, have you soldered any brass rods of a little larger size? I am wanting to go up to about .40 to use on a life size owl. I have never soldered brass, any tips?
