Question dogwood split 4" log

i have a dogwood log, well sapling, its 6" long and 4" across at the base,
i didnt prepare it for drying properly and it split from one end to the other

i was thinking to let it continue to dry then wedge it apart and possibly glue it back into place later but wondered if anybody had any luck with such an endeavor,

i was going to make tool handles and such out of it. if it cured properly like push chisel handles nothing with strain on it,

probably use poly glue on it to fill any voids left....

what drawbacks, shortcomings should be expected?

not sure if you'll have any luck getting it back together since each half will probably go their own way. So... let 'em go and if it's right down the middle use each 2 inch half on their own, that'll be big enough for a 'coupla handles. If not once they are dry flatten each half and then glue it back into one piece and go from there.

Split it completely, making sure you split through the pithy center. It wont split any more as it dries. Otherwise, you will get additional splits around the whole radius. Better to have two good solid pieces. Use a froe to control the split, or an axe, mallet and wood wedges.
