Check out 'diamond willow' on the web, there is a whole swack of info. related to carving walking sticks using willow including material sources. We have alot of it here in Alberta and I've worked with it quite a bit, it's beautiful wood when finished and no two pieces are alike.

You can get diamond willow on this website:
http://members.tripod.com/~woodsource/index.html
Just email him with any preferences you have (like size, a lot or few diamonds, bark or no bark, fresh cut or already dry, etc.) Don will get right back to you. I think his prices start at around $5. for a stick.

Where are you from? Â*Diamond willow is abundant throughout northern Minnesota and Wis and I would guess Michigan and other northern U.S. states. Â* I have picked, debarked, dried and sold hundreds of sticks and sold them for $1 to $5 each. Â* The secret is to know where they grow and how to recognised them. Â* You may have some in your own back yard. Â*By the time you get one or more shipped to you the price becomes substantial. Â* If your anywhere near Cumberland Wis, Â*I usually have several hanging in my garage with a top price of $3. Â*And no I won't send them... I done that and wont do it again. Â*
