Default Crab Apple Wood

Have root ball and about five feet of the trunk of a crab apple tree. The root is georgous and the trunk not bad either. Feedback on suitability of this wood for carving greatly appreciated. in advance for your help..

Hallo Jae
wood and the rest of the common fruitwoods, such as pear and cherry in the UK, usually carve very well. You're lucky to have such a big lump! Enjoy.

Crab is a hard hard wood, with a close grain and fabulous contrasting colour heart wood/sap wood. Holds detail crisp, clear and well, well worth the effort. It sands to a wonderful smoothness. It is know to ship modellers as a premium modeling wood, along with Pear.
