Default Cottonwood Bark

New member here...fumbling around this amazing website! Love the communication and sharing process...I live in SD and there are Cottonwood trees everywhere..I seem to be lost in the forrest and can't see the trees?
Just how do you obtain the bark so to speak? Is it pried of a fallen older tree or cut out or? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanx

Default Re: Cottonwood Bark

Pried of dead or fallen trees. Just about impossible to do so on a live tree.

I have a flat metal home made type of pry bar that I use. Sometimes I find a big piece and sometimes smaller. You will find a lot before you start to be picky on harvesting the bark. Don't ask me how I know.

Art the Bark Guy here on this board can explain better than I as he has done it for more years than I.

BTW, Welcome aboard Ziggy

Funny How one relates to a name. Back in the 60's and 70's there was a cigarette paper called Ziggy or was it Zig Zag. Old memory fails me sometimes.
