I would like to know if a chipboard is feasible for carving like any other hard or soft woods.. I must admit that the reason i have this question is that i'm on a really tight budget and chipboards seem to be cheaper than most wood. Thanks! |

If you mean by chip board, you have a mixed blending of wood chips pressed together with glue, I have never heard of anyone trying it. If you looking for an economical way to get into carving, I carve a lot of logs (birch, ash, ect.) and its a great way to hone your skills. If you mess up, it goes on the firewood pile. Some lumber mills might be fine with you getting all the ends and discarded pieces if you ask nicely. Patrick |

No chipboard isn't good for carving...its tough! You can probably find some kind of pine around to carve on, not the best, but its cheap!

yes pieces of wood and reused paper compressed together. i figured the bad thing about it is that you can't get a clean cut on it easily.. So pine is a good alternative? thanks for the advice! |
