Recently was given a 7 foot straight old dry staff, with bark on, the ends were weathered and the feller thought i could have fun making a walking stick or cane from it.
as i used a small fiddle makers plane to remove bark and smooth out some of the bumps and humps i got a whiff of cinnamon, and ucilyptis, i brought the stick to my nose in a fresh cut place and yep it was the stick.
a darker tan, between pecan and walnut
today i picked up a small section of the wood and remembered its strange charistics as i did carve on it, it was like carving cottonwood bark,
in that the wood was layered like layers of paint eggshell thick, some places flaked and others carved pretty good...
this is the tree that has all them olive pit sized hard seeds that get under foot and make it very hard to maintain control when your among the seeds,,
known as the bead tree the beads are used for making rosery beads among other things,
i did a search for the tree and come up with this, on the aspca animal shelter and potion control
thinking its posion to animals might post the warning here too...
