Default Carving Cypress Knees

Hi again to all.
I was told by one of the guys at a carving club that cypress knees contain a lot of silica and that this really chews the edge off your tools in a hurry. Is there fact in this or is this a misconception. Thank you to everyone for your help, this has proved to be a most excellent site with so many knowledgable people.

Not sure of the reason, silica or what but I can tell you that you need sharp tools and they will dull quickly so keep a strop handy.

The dust is considered toxic as well so if you sand or use power tools be sure to wear a respirator or mask....
