Re: Where can I buy Jelutong Wood Hi Brian,
Well, it depends on what you mean by workbench for relief carving. Â*If you mean something to hold your relief carvings while you carve at the kitchen table or at a shopbench, then you probably just need the pattern for a bench hook. Â*You can make one with a piece of plywood that's 12-14' square. Â*Then you attach a piece of 1' wood to make a side rail and attach it flush to two adjoining sides. Â*(If you are right handed, you will put it at the top and left sides)
Then on the underneath side ( of the edge closest to your belly--without a rail on the top side) you put another 1' strip of wood. Â*When you put this contraption on your table, this lip fits off the edge of the table and keeps it from moving forward as you carve your relief. Â*By having the bottom and right sides open, it allows you to carve wood that's bigger than the 12 or 14' of your bench hook. Â*
I hope you can figure out what I mean. Â*This is what most of us in my neck of the woods use to hold our relief projects as we are working on them.
