I just had to share my good fortune. Out of nowhere I got a call today from a guy who does landscaping and he asked if I'd be interested in some burl wood. Of COURSE!!! Attached are some pics of what he brought, BTW he asked if $20.00 was too much. I gave him $30 and he was thrilled. My barber told him that I might be interested. Not sure what kind of wood, don't really care but I'll find out in the morning. Have a great day! Dan |

That's a lot of burls! Well worth the $30. Burls make good drinking cups...just saying...

Looks like you'll be busy for some time. I have a back corner of my farm that is full of Locust and Black Cherry trees, I don't know if it's something in the soil or interaction of the roots but about 1/3 of the cherry trees have burls on them. The cherry trees seem to die off when they get about 12" in diameter and I've saved a few of the burls. I'm trying to get up the nerve to try carving one of them. I'd love to see a pictorial of how you go about it.

Yup, I really love those "Wow, look what fell in my lap days." I have been cutting my own hair for years, but I may have to head back to a barber shop. Guess I never fully realized all the benefits. Jay |

What a great find. I'll bet those burls would make some beautiful knife handles. Sorry, that's the knife maker in me coming out again. Down boy, down!

I'll make a guess that the tree was infected: bacteria/virus or fungus. Wear a good mask.
