Re: buckeye I've carved buckeye, and think if I could only have one wood, I would take it over basswood. Can't really explain why, it just carves nice, takes detail, seems more consistant then basswood. I've only had one problem with it, my last batch I bought had wood borers in it, made for some interesting carving. First showed up last fall when I was putting the eyes in a santa that I needed to complete, and the holes came right thru his one eye. The other wood I use is butternut. I would give the buckeye a try if you can get some.
