Hi, I live in Gaspé, Qc, Canada. Can anyone help me to locate some basswood or butternut boards? It does'nt grow around here and I tried the woodcrafts, they don't have any. I can order but a minimum of a 100 linear feet wich is too much. What should I do ? Thanks |

How much and what size are you looking for? I can sell you both Butternut, and BAsswood in 1" thick, 1 1/2" thick and 2" thick. Chipping away in Kichener also sells both. If you want to talk to me, shoot me an email acoholic@ntl.sympatico.ca I am a woodworker by trade, I use both woods in my furniture and dont make a point of trying to sell carving wood but I can certainly help you out since you are relatively close to me. I live in Timmins, near the ontario/quebec border. AJC

You might be $$$$ ahead to try and buy from your homies... I have some basswood I would gladly send, but I have sent tools/machinery across the border, monetary rate of exchange, didn't matter...import duties were ridiculous...sorry folks. Let us know??

I've also been looking for basswood logs to carve masks. So far in my search, I really haven't found much. I live in DC. Would appreciate any leads possible. I sympathize with you Francois. I think you can find lumber, but finding logs is another matter. Most places that stock basswood are in Tennessee and Wisconsin.

Francois: Can you find a Windsor Plywood Store? Nearest one to me (Prince George, BC) has massive planks of basswood which they will cut. Suppose you wanted 5cm x 25cm x 200cm. Chop!. (That's 2" x 10" x 6'6") I can't tell you anything about price or quality. AJC here is likely your best bet.
