Default basswood heart wood

I was wondering if any of you use Basswood cants or with the heart in it. I found a example of what I am talking about on ebay. If so I can get these pretty much witout ordering them special.

I was just curious lol, seems when I get asked for basswood , they dont want heartwood in it and I seen this and thought well , I can get all kinds of that lol

I don't carve any thing that has a full growth ring. If iI get wood that still has the heart I slice right thru it to relieve the tension of the rings. I was sawing blocks last weekend dried down to 15% and you could hear it pop when we sawed thru the rings.

I've carved some heartwood from bass. Some carves nice & some times it's pretty bad. It can be hard & splinter a bit. Tends to have mineral deposits in it also (greenish looking places that can really mess up an edge).

All of my 'dimensional" basswood is from cant cut-offs that I get free from a local pallet plant. I rip it into smaller chunks on the bandsaw. One big bonus of living in the upper midwest is free wood.

Because Cans don't carve as well as Cants!
You can carve cans with snips.
