Default Basswood costs

This weekend I picked up some basswood for $3.50 for 2" - 3" thick material.

How does that compare to what your paying?

Mike

I just paid $3.75 per board foot for 2" (8/4) basswood in New Jersey.
1 1/4" (5/4) goes for $3.50.

Bought 8 pieces of 2 3/4" x 5 3/4" x 24 " for 5 bucks a piece. No shipping as I picked it up on the way back from gathering some cotton wood bark. Actually they were two 8 foot long piece and I cut them up to that length. Easier to haul.

actually shipping isn't that bad if you use a truck company. I use a local one and I was pretty suprised I sent it at that cost. Even with shipping included it was still around $2.50 or so per bdft. That is actually less then what most lumber yards sell it for.

I get $2.50 to 3.00 / bf for clear basswood up to 16/4 x rw.

I sawed out some 20/4 and 24/4 this summer, hopefully it will be dry next year and wont be all checked. This stuff will fetch a premium for me due to the thickness.

Rockler's has a store near Buffalo, NY. I see they have a pile of 12/4 basswood for $6 / bf.

$3.50 / bf isn't a bad price if your just purchasing small quantities. That's assuming that there are no defects in the wood.

this stuff is all Kiln dried as well that he has for sale. I have seen basswood he had that was 8" thick at one time. Not too often , but I have seen them as thick as 7 x 17x 204" as well. All I know is it is heavy and dont feel good on a foot lol
