My wife and I are going up to our place on the north shore of Lake Superior in a couple of days. I just realized I am running a little short of basswood tonight while I was cutting out some blanks on the bandsaw. I was just wondering if there is anywhere around Duluth that carries much basswood? I want some pieces that are about 3 inches by 4 inches. That size works good for the carvings I do. We always go to Duluth for a day when we are up there and I always like to check out new places. Thanks in advance Jared

I can't remember the name of the place, but I can tell ya how to get there. If you take the Miller Trunk Highway out past the Miller Hill Mall, past Menard's, and still past Bullion RV, past Northern Equipment, keep watch on the right side of the highway for a bicycle shop that sets back off the road about 150 feet. In the back of the bike shop is a carving supply, and they always had a pretty good supply of wood and tools. I haven't been there in a few years now, but the old guy that ran it passed away and his son has taken over. I think they are still in business. Michael's store behind Target also handles basswood blocks, but they are a mite pricey. Prodded my brain cells abit and came upwiththe name; Galleria Sales in Hermantown. 6.93 miles Galleria Sales 218-729-9704 • 5225 Miller Trunk Hwy, Hermantown,MN 55811 Al Last edited by AlArchie; 09-11-2006 at 07:15 AM. |

The lumber yard in Cohasset carries basswood pieces. If you go on Hwy 2 West go threw Grand Rapids it's the next town on Hwy 2. You can see the lumber yard on the left of Hwy 2 go over the tracks (look both ways! LOL) Their phone is-218-328-5837 Also another source that's excellant is John Krantz. He sells to shows and he lives in Forest Lake but has wood up here. He's going to be at the arena this weekend in Grand Rapids (MN) Maybe it would be worth the trip. Good Luck! Krum
